Each vignette depicts brave fictional characters taking action to defend the forest, the water, the land, or the air. The stories span the globe and are drawn from real life situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first story, <em>The Keepers<\/em> depicts the fight of the Sengwer people to keep their land from being confiscated by Kenya under the guise of conservation. The second story, <em>The Song of the Sunderbans, <\/em>describes the fight against Bangladesh\u2019s decision to build a coal burning power plant in the world\u2019s largest remaining Mangrove forest. The third story is called <em>Patrollers of the prey lang<\/em> is part of a series of vignettes telling the stories of environmental defenders. She is a scholar of environmental justice, human rights, and environmental law. Her book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcadiapublishing.com\/products\/9781467151405\"><em>Naming Gotham\u00a0<\/em><\/a>won the Association of Public Historians of New York 2023 Award for Excellence in Local History and the 2024 American Legacy Award for US Fiction. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rebeccabratspies.com\/environmental-justice-chronicles\">Environmental Justice Chronicles<\/a>, her graphic novel series won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2023-06\/CAEA%20Awards%20Presentation%202023.pdf\">EPA\u2019s 2023 Clean Air Excellence Award<\/a>. In 2021, ABA-SEER honored her work with its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanbar.org\/groups\/environment_energy_resources\/awards\/diversity_justice_award\/\">Commitment to Diversity and Justice Award<\/a>.
