She examines issues related to international maritime boundary-making, the militarization of the ocean, traditional sea mobility, and local marine environmental resource management. Catalina is currently a guest researcher at the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation (CEDLA) at the University of Amsterdam, and a member of the collective Voces Marinas del Sur, which brings together participatory research and creative approaches to bridge scholarship and coastal realities in artisanal fishing communities across the Global South.
