From 19 to 21 November 2025, the Marine Science Campus (Fraunhoferstraße 16) will host the international workshop ‘Critical Social Science Perspectives on Coastal Erosion for Transformative Adaptation’. It is being organised by Professor Dr Silja Klepp, Department of Geography at Kiel University (CAU) and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS).

A special highlight of the workshop will be the public launch of the EROSIONE multimedia project on 20 November 2025 at 6 p.m. The project was developed by the cabuffatCeOS team in collaboration with the Working Group on Social Geography of Coasts and Seas (AG Klepp). EROSIONE brings the complex socio-ecological dynamics of erosion in Sicily to life in a visual and interdisciplinary way.
The evening will begin with an aperitif and a panel discussion on the topic of ‘Knowledge transfer in complex scientific contexts’. The panellists will be:
- Julia Ahrend (Visual Science Communication & Design Research, Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design, Kiel)
- Salvatore Granata (Environmental activist, Legambiente Capo d’Orlando, Sicily)
- Prof. Dr. Silja Klepp (Geographical Institute of Kiel University, UNESCO Co-Chair for Integrated Marine Sciences, Christian Albrecht University of Kiel)
- Dr. Felix Gross (Head, cabuffatCeOS, CAU)
Workshop participants and interested guests are cordially invited to attend the event.
