F. Dermmillah Obare

Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Center for Governance and Sustainability, University of Massachusetts Boston. Dermmillah’s research explores issues of environmental governance, focusing on the design and performance of government wildlife institutions and advocating for inclusive governance models that integrate the livelihood needs of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. Drawing on historical and legal analysis, local perspectives, and spatial analysis, her work diagnoses persistent governance challenges and emphasizes the need for institutional restructuring that is responsive to local context. Her primary research area is Africa, and she is currently expanding this research agenda to North America.
