Laura Dominique Pesliak

Laura has a background in public health, public policy, and sociology. She is a Research Associate at the University of Bielefeld and a PhD candidate at the University of Hamburg. Her dissertation explores the role of conceptual frameworks and analytical models in environmental health research. It examines how these frameworks capture the complexity of human–environment interactions and highlights the inequalities in knowledge production and application that can result from challenges such as ontological simplification and epistemic bias. Building on this foundation, Laura develops pathways for advancing both the understanding and practical application of these frameworks. Her work integrates conceptual model development, international case studies, and empirical investigations to explore how frameworks are applied in practice and how they intersect with environmental justice. Beyond her doctoral research, her work addresses environmental justice from a gender and intersectional perspective. It also considers the implementation of Health in All Policies and the examination of structural inequalities, with particular attention to urban contexts.
